Join the Sip Contributor Collective.

Amplify The Sip is looking for writers, photographers, and cultural workers with roots in the South and a story worth telling. If that sounds like you, come say hi.

What the Collective is.

The Sip Contributor Collective is our open circle of storytellers. It’s not a formal roster, an application, or a paid membership. It’s how we stay connected with people whose work fits what Amplify does. When we’re planning an issue, we reach out. When you have an idea, you reach out. That’s the whole thing.

Who we’re looking for.

Journalists, oral historians, photographers, illustrators, essayists, playlist curators, home cooks, front-porch philosophers. Experienced or new to publishing. If your work is rooted in a Southern place and a real person, and if you care about connection, experience, and cultural context, we want to know you.

What we tend to publish:

  • Reported features
  • Oral histories
  • Photo essays
  • Sip Lists and playlists
  • ‘Sip Archive follow-ups

How to reach out.

Email lauchlin@thesipcollective.org with:

  • A sentence or two about yourself and your work
  • A story you’re thinking about, or just a note that you’d like to be in the mix
  • A link or two to work you’re proud of

We read everything. We write back to the ones that fit. If we’re not the right home for a piece right now, we’ll tell you honestly, and sometimes we’ll suggest where else it might land.

What we’re planning.

Our upcoming themed issues, in case one of them sparks something. Not required to pitch to a theme. Sometimes the best stories arrive on their own timeline.

  • Nourish · food as memory, care, and gathering
  • Currents · the Mississippi River, and everything it moves
  • Blues · the music, the labor, the ownership
